Firethorn

FIRETHORN

                   Root-Over-Rock Style

This common Firethorn (Pyracantha angustifolia) is about 25 year old and stands 25.5 inches (65cm) high; it has been trained in the root-over-rock style. The main attraction of this bonsai is probably its lovely red berries, although it also has a number of other interesting facets. In spring the tree is smothered with creamy-white flowers, and this display is followed in the autumn by a heavy crop of berries. The berries last well into the next spring,if kept away from the birds.
